What manoeuvres are included in your practical test?

You’ll also be asked to do one of 3 possible reversing manoeuvres The ‘reverse around a corner’ and ‘turn-in-the-road’ manoeuvres are no longer tested, but you should still be taught them by your instructor.

Overview of the manoeuvre

  • Pull up beside the kerb using MSPSL. Stop about two/three car lengths from corner. Put the hand brake on & into reverse. Get the car ready. Find the biting point/Gas/No Gas?

  • COMPLETE OBSERVATIONS

  • Slow move back & stop just before the curb starts to go around corner

  • COMPLETE OBSERVATIONS

  • Handbrake on. Biting point/Gas/No Gas?

  • COMPELTE OBSERVATIONS

  • Handbrake off/SLOW car. Turn LEFT (how much to turn will depend on the corner)

  • COMPLETE OBSERVATIONS

  • When the car is straight, straighten wheels (right) and go back for two/three car lengths. Keep the same distance from the car & kerb all the way around. LOOK THROUGH BACK WINDOW & ALL ROUND. Stop car Handbrake on, into neutral.
